Wind Relieving Yoga Pose: Improve Digestion and Activate Excretory System

Wind Relieving Pose (Pavana Muktasana)
As you are probably aware Yoga is a complete health science that can, over time, relieve even the most difficult and unwanted diseases and syndromes from the system. This includes acidity or gassiness. Yoga consists of a wide variety and range of practices that are therapeutic for physical, mental and emotional well-being. Well, even spiritual. Here, we show how the Wind Relieving posture helps aid digestion and the expelling of gaseous accumulations from the abdominal region.
- To begin the pose, relax on your mat gazing at the ceiling and take a few breaths.
- Now raise your right knee and hold it in your hands.
- Next you raise your head and tug your knee towards it, thereby trying to touch the two.
- Take a few deep breaths and then release.
- Now repeat all the above mentioned motions with the other leg.
- This done relax for a while, then raise both your knees simultaneously and bring them up to your chest. Envelop your arms round the knees, as if hugging them.
- Push your chin into your chest with your head resting on your mat. Press the base of your back down into your mat as you tug at your the knees.
- Press the back of your neck and shoulders down into your mat. The point is to try to keep your whole back and spine flat on your mat without lifting. Relax the legs, feet and hips.
- Next try and raise your head and, simultaneously, pull both knees towards your head and try to touch your chin to the knees.
- Keep breathing deeply in this position for 5 – 7 breaths. Try to press your abdomen actively against your thighs all throughout.
- To come out of the pose exhale and let go of your knees and move your legs back to the mat.
- Another beneficial motion that will help exercise your spine is the slow, gentle, rhythmic rocking you can give yourself, to and fro while clasping both knees.
Resist the tendency to raise your buttocks and lower back from or off your mat. In Single Leg Wind Relieving Pose remember to keep your straight leg flat on your mat.
