What is the Kundalini?
The Kundalini is graphically depicted as a coiled serpent inside the human body. It is supposed to be reservoir of immense latent power that is present in every human being. The awakening of Kundalini is said to bring about a total transformation in a person’s life as it allows him to access an infinite reservoir of strength, knowledge, and wisdom. The best way to awaken Kundalini is through the practice of Kundalini yoga.
What is Kundalini Yoga?
Kundalini yoga is very different from the other styles of yoga. This is a very focused style of yoga where every thought, act, deed, or exercise is directed towards one activity-the awakening of Kundalini. In fact, Kundalini yoga is considered to be an entire lifestyle in itself. In ancient India’s it was only attempted by the most resolute ascetics in an effort to further increase their wisdom and power.
How to awaken Kundalini?
Kundalini yoga is performed in the form of various kriyas, or actions. These kriyas are performed even when you are asleep. The purpose behind these kriyas is to open a passage from the abdomen to the brain. This allows the Kundalini, which resides at the base of the spine, to slowly travel upward, until it reaches the brain. When the Kundalini reaches the brain, it activates the Sahasrara chakra, a spinning vortex of energy that resides in the brain. When this chakra is activated, it brings enlightenment and awareness and allows the brain to transcend all the barriers of time, space, and the physical world.
Kundalini yoga can only be practiced under the guidance of a guru who is well versed in this process. In fact, traditionally it was the guru’s job to identify which of his disciples would be initiated into the practices of Kundalini yoga. Only the brightest and best ascetics were inducted into this elite training program.
Is it right for me?
It must be borne in mind that Kundalini yoga is not practiced for fitness or to gain succor from any disease. If you are new to yoga, or want to try yoga to keep fit and healthy, Kundalini yoga is probably not the right choice for you. This rigorous form of yoga should only be practiced by those who are already adept at the more traditional forms of yoga and now seek to increase their spiritual awareness through the awakening of Kundalini
