I have very fair skin but it has discolored in inner thighs and buttocks, how to lighten it?

Causes of Dark Skin Patches

Patches of dark skin on the inner thighs and buttocks is a common problem. Frequent friction occurs when the thighs rub against one another and this may cause darkening of the skin. Obesity may also lead to dark skin, especially on the thighs and buttocks. Stretch marks may develop on the skin if there is sudden weight gain. These marks may cause the dermis of the skin to break down, resulting in the appearance of purplish scars which appear as dark patches on the skin. Another factor that may contribute to dark skin on the inner thighs is the prolonged use of birth control pills. Skin pigmentation may be one of the side effects of intake of birth control pills. A skin disorder called acanthosis nigricans results in dark patches on the body, especially in areas where there are skin folds. Individuals with polycystic ovary syndrome are also more susceptible to skin pigmentation and are likely to have patches of dark skin on the body.

Treatment

If skin pigmentation is accompanied by other symptoms, you should seek medical advice to determine the existence of any other underlying condition. If the skin darkening is not part of a serious condition, there are some home remedies you can use to reduce the darkening. Lime juice is a very well known and one of the most effective remedies for lightening the skin. It should however be used in smaller quantities as it tends to be quite acidic. You can also add lemon juice to almond or olive oil and apply it to the pigmented areas. Leave this on for about an hour and then rinse the oil off. A balanced diet is beneficial in keeping the skin healthy and glowing. Try to avoid oily and spicy food and include fresh vegetables, fruits and cereals in your diet.

Drinking plenty of water is also essential in preventing skin problems. Cocoa butter is believed to be useful in lightening pigmented areas. You may massage cocoa butter into the skin on a regular basis. Vitamin E oil works well to reduce dark marks and patches. Aloe vera gel is also a beneficial remedy for this. If your thighs are rubbing against each other, it would be beneficial to wear long and loose clothing. Applying a mixture of oatmeal and tomato juice will also be effective in treating pigmented patches. Potato is an effective bleaching agent and slices of potato may be placed upon the dark patches. You may also apply a paste of turmeric powder and a couple of drops of lime juice. This helps greatly in reducing the pigmentation on the skin.
