Treatment For Oral Herpes Simplex Virus Infection

By Patricia | June 16, 2009

You should probably go and visit the doctor immediately because there is a possibility that you are infected with oral herpes. Oral herpes is caused by the Herpes simplex virus, which is also responsible for genital herpes as well as chicken pox. If this is confirmed by a series of tests, then there is a good chance that you will remain in this condition for the next two to three weeks.

Oral Herpes Simplex Virus

The herpes simplex virus is one the most resilient viruses in biology. Once it finds a human host, it never leaves the host. Its life cycle includes stages of infection and full-grown disease. This is the stage where the virus forms the sores and scabs characteristic to all herpes infections. It is through these that the virus propagates to other hosts. The virus then travels to the nearby nerve cells where it remains dormant for a long period until some sort of trigger reactivates it and the disease recurs. As in the case of chicken pox, the virus can also travel down the spine and infect the stomach and chest areas of the body. However, with every infection the chances of recurrence goes down and the antiviral and retroviral treatments that are available are largely successful in stopping its regeneration.

Treatment

There is no cure or vaccine developed for treating herpes in any of its forms. This is because of the organism’s constantly changing life cycle and complicated DNA structure. The only treatment is to treat the symptoms using ointments and painkillers. However, an interesting addition in recent times is the use of tea tree oil. Tea tree oil is a very powerful antimicrobial herb. A native of the Australian outback, it has been used for several years as a magic herb capable of miraculously curing diseases. Scientists finally started to take this plant seriously and isolated the most potent part of it, which is the oil of the plant, giving us tea tree oil. The impressiveness of tea tree oil is that it is an antibiotic, antiviral, and an antifungal treatment all at the same time. Apply this in a concentrated form on your lip. However you should be warned that tea tree oil is very harh and can burn the skin, therefore it is best if you visit your family physician for accurate treatment on the same. It could also be dangerous if ingested. If all the reports of the oil are to be believed then this is probably your best attack against the herpes virus. But, you must again note that there is no way that it can be eliminated from the body and it is very important at this stage that you do not spread the infection by letting the lesion and blister come into contact with another person.
