Periodontal Gum Disease

There are usually two reasons as to why you could be experiencing a metallic taste in your mouth: drugs and medication that you are taking for some other condition or a dental condition called Periodontitis. The medications that are possible causes for a metallic taste in your mouth are acetazolamide, eszopicolone, metronidazole, and etoposide. In addition, a possible reason is an exposure to heavy metals as fumes.

Periodontitis is a condition where the teeth decay because of a bacterial infection of the gums and supporting structures. Periodontal gum disease is mostly caused due to bad oral hygiene, smoking, and diabetes. The progress of the disease starts with bacteria affecting the gums, which further goes on to affect the rest of the supporting tissue. When the body reacts to this condition by launching an immune response, in some people, this immune response is overkill and this worsens the condition. The best way to confirm this suspicion is to consult a dentist. Treating this disease requires you to start flossing regularly and properly. This is one thing that you can start doing from your end but the rest of the treatment has to be done as per the dentist’s advice. You should also try applying some natural antiseptics as well. Cloves have been used for a very long time to treat dental infections. Cloves have a dual property of being a mild anesthetic and an antiseptic as well. Use this along with hydrogen peroxide mouthwashes and an alcohol wash as well.

Treatment

Cloves can be applied in two forms to the teeth. The first involves using a dried clove and biting on it like a chewing gum; however, instead of swallowing the resulting juices immediately, try to swill it around your mouth. The other alternative application is clove oil. Again, just swill this in your mouth but do not swallow this at all because it is more concentrated than a a regular clove dose. Cloves can cause hyperacidity by stimulating the production of hydrochloric acid in the stomach; so an alternative remedy to feeling of fullness in the stomach is swallowing clove extract or clove oil, moderately. Hydrogen peroxide mouthwashes are regularly advised by dentists. This is because it is mildly acidic and can disinfect. Take a good swig of hydrogen peroxide and swill it around your mouth. If you have any open sores, this might burn your mouth so take care of those areas. Hydrogen peroxide and alcohol share the quality of being antiseptics so even using alcohol as a mouthwash is not a bad idea.
