Acidity: The digestive process is aided by certain acids that the stomach secretes. Food is broken down by this acid, during the digestive process. But when there is too much of acid produced by the stomach, then it leads to acidity. Acidity is generally caused due to too over-consumption of alcohol or rich, spicy food; inadequate sleep; eating too quickly without chewing properly; and, stress. Pregnant women are more susceptible to acidity because when the baby grows in the mother’s womb, the uterus pushes the digestive area. Obese or overweight people may also suffer from acidity very frequently. If the valve between the food pipe and the stomach is weak, then that too can cause acidity. Acidity is characterized by dyspepsia and heartburn.
Dyspepsia: If you have a burning sensation in the upper abdomen, you may want to get checked for dyspepsia. Some people do not feel any pain, but suffer from nausea, bloating, flatulence, fullness or indigestion. If you have a duodenal ulcer, then you may experience some relief by eating some food; but if you have a gastric ulcer, then the pain may get worse.
