I have fever and stuffy nose and head, something also draining from my nose, how to feel better with home remedies

The symptoms you name are an indication of a head cold, also called common cold. But, if the fever gets high, you might have a case of the flu. The best thing to do when you have these symptoms is to take ample rest. Whether head cold or flu, these ailments are caused by viruses that attack us when our immune system is low. It may take you a few days to get rid of the symptoms. Other than resting, there are many remedies that can bring you relief from the other symptoms. The first thing you need to do is to clear your nasal passages and sinuses because keeping the mucus in will make your head stuffier than it already is. You should also increase your consumption of Vitamin C as it helps combat the viruses that cause flu and cold and strengthens our immune system. You can get Vitamin C from citrus fruits. Lemon is very effective in treating colds, flu and coughs as well. Squeeze half a lemon in a glass of warm water and add one teaspoon of honey to it. Drink this decoction thrice a day to get relief from a cold.

Natural Remedies

Peppermint is also good for clearing the sinuses and getting rid of colds. You can have the peppermint in the form of tea. Eucalyptus will also clear your sinuses and stuffy head. Put a few drops of eucalyptus oil on your handkerchief and smell it as frequently as you can through the day. Another very effective way of clearing your stuffy head would be taking steam inhalations. You can add peppermint oil or eucalyptus oil to boiling water and inhale the steam for about 10 minutes. Do this at least twice every day for ten minutes. And while you do this, make sure the fan or the air conditioner is switched off keep your head covered with a towel while inhaling. After you finish inhaling the steam, keep the towel on your head for some time at least. Covering your head while you sleep would also be a good idea. Keep yourself as warm and snug as possible.

Also, stay away from cold water, drinks and foods. You must also avoid fruits with cold propensity like banana, grapes, watermelon, and cucumber. It would be beneficial if you consumed lots of fresh fruits and green leafy vegetables so that your immune system doesn’t wear out. Drinking hot soups and teas, especially ginger tea, will clear your nasal passages and your head too.
