Yoga Asanas To Reduce Or Control Acne

Acne normally occurs in teenagers and adolescents as a result of hormonal changes the person undergoes at this age. In some the onslaught is earlier, in others later. But no matter when it happens, it is awfully irritating and discomfiting.
How Can Yoga Treat Acne?
Fortunately, Yoga can help. But first you must understand your condition. Acne, though the result of hormonal changes, is aggravated on account of the following:
- Wrong eating habits
- Erroneous lifestyle
- Smoking
- Drugs
- Drinking
- Stress and worrying
- Unhygienic living conditions
No wonder, the clinical term for this condition is Acne Vulgaris. More than 85% teenagers and adolescents in America alone suffer from acne. They are commonly referred to as pimples, spots and zits. But then, no matter what the name, the condition still remains just as distressing. Unfortunately, in rare cases, acne continues even in grownups. In most cases, though, it diminishes gradually and of its own accord, until, one fine day it disappears altogether. Then again, acne is known to leave ugly tell-tale marks that could last a lifetime. While nobody, not even your doctor is able to tell for just how long your problem will continue to persist and when it is going to disappear, acne is completely treatable through Yoga.
Of course, it will involve changing your life style, your waking, sleeping habits – getting them into discipline and order, that is – your food habits and some regular exercises. Meaning to say, you will have to usher in a few welcome alterations into your life. If done well and wholeheartedly you will not just heal yourself entirely, your unconditional cooperation will quicken your healing.
Cleansing Kriyas In Yoga
The basic problem with people suffering from acne is excess of toxins in the body. Yoga helps by flushing toxins out of the system. This is done through the following cleansing kriyas (techniques):
- Vaman Dhauti (Drinking and vomiting water on an empty stomach)
- Shanka Prakshalana (Yogic enema)
- Jala Neti (Nasal cleansing with water)
You will also have to practice some Yogasanas (Yoga Poses). The poses are done standing, sitting, supine, prone and inverted. It is best that you learn to do at least three in each category with most emphasis on the Supine Poses.
Last, but not the least you should practice a few pranayama (breathing exercises). The ones best suited to you are Kapalabhatti (Skull Cleansing) and Anuloma-Viloma (Alternate Nostril breathing)
Make sure that you follow a healthy Sattvic (pure and simple), predominantly vegetarian diet and practice lots of Shavasana (relaxation in the Corpse Pose). If possible, include meditation as part of your daily practices to calm your mind and help de-stress you further.
