Trembling or involuntary shaky hands can be observed due to a number of reasons, both benign and severe. One common reason that most people experience is due to excessive caffeine consumed in a day that sets off the adrenaline release, and can leave an individual trembling. Too much alcohol is also another reason that could cause involuntary shakiness, due to its effect on the central nervous system. Cut down on the consumption of both substances to check if the trembling wears off or dies down. Tension and anxiousness can cause the shaking of hands, too. You could try calming down through meditation techniques or deep-breathing exercises.
In some cases, shaky hands can also be an indication of arthritis or Carpal Tunnel Syndrome. If you notice swelling and inflammation around your finger joints, the health problem could be arthritis. If you happen to invest plenty of time operating the computer or performing any other continual activity involving the use of your hands such as knitting or needlework, you may be experiencing Carpal Tunnel Syndrome. The Carpal Tunnel syndrome is a painful disorder caused by the compression of a nerve in the carpal tunnel; characterized by discomfort and weakness in the hands and fingers and by sensations of tingling, burning or numbness. Among most people, tremor in the hands and sometimes in the feet sets in even as early as in the 40s, and according to medical studies, this tremor is likely to have an effect upon nearly 15 percent of individuals over the age of 65. Tremors related to old age are usually not linked to any major disorders nor is it an indication of future diseases. However, if the shaking of hands is a cause of concern and tends to interfere in your daily activities, you must consult with your doctor who is likely to prescribe a beta-blocking agent, an anti-anxiety drug, or anti-seizure medicines to control the disorder. A note of precaution - your doctor may also want to preclude neurological disorders like Parkinson’s through medical tests, and check if any existing drugs might be inducing the trembling.
